GOLC Shoe Company was started in 2003 by Harlan Whitley (a 30 year veteran in the shoe business). The focus was Euro Comfort Clogs hence the name GOLC is Clog spelled backwards. The clogs feature a molded arch footbed and all leather construction. Mariana by GOLC was started in 2005 to serve the growing Dress Shoe market. The Mariana name comes from Mary Frances Whitley (Harlan's wife) "Mari" and the name of the lead factory in Brazil "Ana". Mariana by GOLC features comfortable vegetable tanned leathers. Current clothing trends, textures and colors are the primary inspirations for the development of each collection. All products are made in Southern Brazil an area founded by the Germans and Italians in the 1930's and 1940's fleeing World War II. The artisan craftsmanship brought into the country at that time has been carried over into today factories on with little machinery and many hands that are used to make the beautiful hand rubbed rich leathers.
