Q. What is an Ingrown Toenail?
A. An ingrown toenail occurs when skin on one or both sides of a toenail grows over the nail.
What causes it?
Injury, poorly fitting shoes, or improper foot maintenance can cause this painful condition. People with curved or thick nails are most susceptible to developing ingrown toenails.
When trimming nails, try not to cut them too short or round the edges. Look for shoes with a roomy toe box, which is the area that surrounds your foot from the knuckle joints to the tips of your toes, to avoid putting pressure on your nails into your toes – with shoes, tight is never right!
