Q. What's a heel counter?

heel counter

A. The heel counter is located in the back portion of a shoe and is typically a small plastic insert used to reinforce the heel cup and increase support.

Why does it matter?
The heel counter controls the foot's pronation and should be firm when squeezed. If it is soft and collapses with pressure, it likely won't provide the foot and ankle support you need.
