The concept of Cleatskins was conceived in 2005 by Rick Kay, a former college athlete and young father of three active children. Sitting on his front step, changing out his eldest son's rubber baseball cleats, he believed there had to be better way to prolong the life of cleated shoes. With the help of his wife, Marianne, who wanted to make sure the innovation included a way to prevent damage to car and home interiors while making it safer for kids in cleats run on solid surfaces, they set about finding a better way to make Cleatskins a reality. Both parents thought it would be great to find a way to cut down on the amount of money spent on cleats and the repair of cleat damage, without always having to yell, "TAKE THOSE CLEATS OFF!"
