Surprisingly comfortable

These boots are suprisingly comfortable. No blisters after two hikes of 15 and 22 miles each with 5,000+ elevation gain. Bottom of my left foot was a tad sore after 22 miles but I'm not sure any other boot would have had a different result after 22 miles of pounding. Goretex kept me dry even with a partial dunk in a stream crossing. They look like they will hold up well but time will tell.

Love these shoes

My orthotics fit into these shoes very nicely. These are my second pair, I also have them in the gray color. They are the most comfortable pair I own. They also have great ankle support.

Great shoe, but runs small

I'm getting ready to order my second pair of these shoes, as I have just about worn my current pair out after nearly 2 years (they are getting a bit stretched out). It is true that they run smaller than usual for NB. I wear a 9AA in regular street shoes, dress shoes, and sandals, a 10.5AA in athletic shoes (including NB), but I wear an 11AA in this particular NB style. This shoe has been great for day hikes. I wear them 2-4 times a week for hikes of 4-10 miles. They are very supportive (I do add a special insert, though), and have eliminated my plantar fasciitis. The ankle support is great, too, as I broke my leg a few years ago and feel more comfortable having ankle area protection. I do not find them too tight in the ankle and have not had problems with the metal shoelace hooks. I have been very happy with these shoes and recommend them. Just keep in mind that this style runs smaller than usual for NB and order accordingly.

Great Hiker!

Looking for a hiking boot with a WIDE WIDTH that would be comfortable and support my feet and ankles while hiking off road and into brambles and weeds that I cannot see. The boots surpassed my expectations. They were tough, kept my ankles and feet in place and had enough traction to keep me standing in snow and slippery conditions. Best hikers I have had in a long time Very happy with the New Balance Brand...get their sneakers and now the hikers.

WAY too tight around the ankles

I was so excited to get this shoe as I wear the NB 927/928 tennis shoe and love it. This is NOT true to size -it's smaller and I felt like my feet were being crushed. The shoe is SO extremely tight around the ankle it practically cuts off circulation. There is no way to loosen them sufficiently to prevent such pressure. The metal tabs to lace the shoe at the top are difficult to lace, but I sure would have lived with that if the shoe was comfortable. I hope NB reads this - they need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
