I have been wearing Merrell shoes for hiking for over a decade. My experience is that they run a little on the small size. I wear a seven in almost every other brand of shoe, but in Merrell's I have always worn a 7 1/2. Especially with hiking boots, where you typically wear a thick sock, I would suggest going up 1/2 size. In terms of width, I describe these boots as appropriately narrow in the heel area but sufficiently wide in the forefoot to allow for a comfortable fit. I would not wear these boots for a heavy pack, multi-day hike, but for day hiking, long walks, etc., they are perfect!
