With time...I will learn to love them

I have somewhat wider calves, however can still wear non-extended calf boots just fine. I did not find that these were much larger than normal boots. I can tuck my jeans inside them and they look really cute. I had a very hard time getting my foot in and out of the boot for the first 2 weeks of wearing them (I have had them for about 2 weeks now). I notice it is getting a bit easier, but they are still pretty stiff. I really wish these boots were about 2 inches higher. I am about 5'6, and they fall about 2.5 inches below my knees. I know I will have these for a very long time, and believe as I wear them more and more, I will like them better. I want them a bit more "roughed up" and worn looking. They are well made and very sharp.
these are beautiful, well made boots. I normally wear an 8 or 8.5, so judging by the reviews I decided to order the 8.5 so I would have room for socks. the boot fit in the toe box and although they didn't really feel like they were too long, they fit oddly loose in the heel area. they were loose enough in the the heel that they flopped around a bit with each step. regarding the calf fit: I have 17" calves and can't wear most regular width boots. these boots fit my calves perfectly, even leaving enough room for leggings or very skinny jeans. in addition to being wider overall, these boots also have goring and a buckle detail at the top for added adjustability. I probably could have put some kind of pad in the heel to make them fit better, but at over $300 I really didn't think I should have to do that. by the way, I exchanged them for a size 8, and although the heel in the 8 was still a tiny bit loose, the fit was much better.
I really wanted to like these boots, but for this price, they had better be perfect. I bought the extended calf because my calves are a little bit wider and I thought the regular ones wouldn't allow me to tuck my pants inside. I'm looking for a comfortable boot to walk in this winter. This boot is comfortable, but it looked too biker cool for me. The heel isn't what I was imagining for walking long distances in. Nice leather. Just not the look and comfort level I was hoping for. However, if this is the boot you like, Frye boots are awesome. I had a pair in college I wore to death, I loved them. I wear a 7.5-8 and the 8 fit well except for being too wide and loose in the ankle and calves.
