Bought them because I had a serious ankle sprain this summer. Needed higher tops to support my ankle.

I'm not a serious hiker, but I've done a fair amount of hiking in the midwest, Hawaii, and the Northeast. I wanted these shoes for the national park in Maine. The Sugarpine boots were more than adequate for the day hikes we did, including one trail labeled "strenuous." The best thing was the grip the shoes had; I didn't slip, which was important to me. The cute factor was definitely there; I felt like I had the cutest boots of anyone we saw! The hikes were in dry weather. I did go stand in some lakes to test the waterproof-ness and my feet did not get wet. No blisters either (wore wool socks per recommendation).

Most important for me is comfort, second is style. These boots are so lightweight, comfortable, and supportive.

Have worn these for an actual hike yet but have done great on walks. Also means I don't know too much about the cons yet. They are definitely water proof.
