New Replaces the 1123 Model

11 out of 13 people found this review helpful.

I have over a number of years worn Models 1121,1122 and 1123 for 24 pairs and they were all great. This Model 1540 BK for about $40.00 more is terrible and has me looking elsewhere for my next shoe, I am 74 yrs. old and don't need this. They don't fit as well ,short ,narrow and over priced for what I got. In plain language. they are uncomfortable. I am looking and as luck would have it ,I have 2 pairs of new 1123's in my closet until I finf my next shoe.

Sizing all wrong..expected more

9 out of 10 people found this review helpful.

I've been wearing the 1022/1023 for about ten years...they were exactly what I needed. I was excited about trying the "new replacement" (actually forced into it is more like it ) and as soon as I put them on I knew there was something wrong. I ordered my normal size...13 EE...and it was like putting on a completely different shoe. Way to small. I thought it was my imagination and when I measured them against my old shoes they were a full 3/4" small in the length....I'm going to give it a try...but they just don't fit nearly as well. I expected a lot more...plus having to pay another $40 more....it was not a good combination. Maybe I expect to much...order shoes...get shoes...use shoes. But now I have to go through all the trouble of finding a new pair that fits me as well. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. I've been a loyal New Balance buyer for so long...if the new shoes I find are made by them...that's fine...but they have lost my loyalty...and my two pairs a year...if someone else has a better model now. Summary: I'm going to give them a try...but guessing the lousy fit will make me send them back...and since I've relied on them for so long...I feel betrayed and annoyed they would make something so completely different

Horrible

9 out of 12 people found this review helpful.

I hate these sneakers. I called New Balance. I find these sneakers not as wide as the style they are replacing. I loved the old sneakers. very wide and a wonderful toe box. I use the 6E and have a flat foot and wear an special orth. piece in my shoe. Very unhappy. I am at a lose for sneakers. :(

Short Tongue Causes Lace Pain

9 out of 9 people found this review helpful.

Design flaw in this otherwise excellent shoe makes wearing them (literally) a pain. The tongue is too short and ends before the top lace. This allows the top lace to dig into the instep of both feet when the lace is tightened. Also, this shortness allows the tongue to creep down well be lot the normal position and bunch up under the laces. Very uncomfortable. The only solution was to not use the uppermost holes for lacing, making the laces way too long. New Balance shoes have always been extremely well designed. This one feature on this model is a surprising exception. ---JP

This is no 1123

6 out of 7 people found this review helpful.

Have worn New Balance for years, starting with the 990's, 991's, 992's and felt the quality drop with each new edition. Switched to the 1123's when they came out but the quality declined with each new pair (about 2 a year). When the M1540 was advertised as the1123 replacement and qualified for diabetic feet I was hopeful. Have ordered the same size for all my New Balance shoes and the M1540's are about a 1/2 size shorter. Not a good plan for a shoe that qualifies for diabetics. My big toes hurt after wearing the shoes for a couple of hours . . . so they are not up to snuff. I do not recommend these shoes.
