The Clarks Wallabee boot is a footwear classic that originated in 1965 when Lance Clark sketched out a moccasin built on Clark's Nature-formed last to create the world's first comfort shoe. The soft suede or leather, hand-sewn upper cradles the foot and eliminates any "break in" period, and the genuine plantation crepe outsole cushions your every step. The Wallabee is a great casual boot for the man looking for comfort in a classic design.

I am astonished at all the positive reviews here for this decades-old shoe. I must be one of the few customers who rates this shoe poorly, even though I think I am assessing it fairly. First, the positives: The leather on the beeswax model seems to be of a heavy, good quality and the distressed patina is quite becoming. In addition, the shoes are nearly silent when you walk, so you won't have to worry about announcing your presence in quiet areas like libraries or churches or classrooms. In all other respects, the shoe was a disaster for me. The leather is STIFF and has no ability to stretch or conform to the foot. What's worse is that the top edge of the boot (where the leather is stiffest) rubs right against the ankle bone on both sides of the foot, making it extremely uncomfortable to walk. I can only imagine the blisters I will have later this week! The heel of the boot and the instep are too narrow for a medium foot, yet the toebox is wide enough so that the foot slides around on the slippery insole. The gummy rubber base is narrow so it feels like one is standing on a balancing beam. My feet did not feel securely planted on the ground. This is not the shoe for weak ankles--I can see someone rolling his/her ankle easily in this shoe. The shoe is 1/2 size larger than its size indicates, mainly because the structure of the shoe is loose and it has no support where it ties into the sole. Even if you get it 1/2 size smaller, it will be very tough to get your foot in because the leather is so inflexible. The leather will eventually stretch but it doesn't become softer or more conforming. The shoes are also very heavy. They weigh more than my winter boots! I imagine that most of my criticism could be remedied by buying them with the suede uppers, but I am not so certain. In any case, the onlineshoes return policy is great so you will have no problems seeing for yourself if any of my criticisms will apply to you.
I held out on buying Wallabees for years after my friends all had them. I love the simple, clean lines and the classic, unchanged style. In Beeswax Leather, they work at my office in place of traditional dress/casual oxfords (I don't wear much black if I can help it). They transition well from the office to nights and weekends, with jeans and khakis. And now, I'm one of the only people wearing Wallabees because my friends have jumped on the newest trend.
I had to buy a half-size smaller than usual (9.5 vs 10-10.5) but they fit perfectly. The sole feels a little narrow and unstable the first time you wear them, like you're on crepe-rubber stilts. But that sensation quickly morphs into comfort. And each pair takes the form of its owner -- so mine will continue to evolve as long as I keep them, which I expect will be many years.
This product, the Clark original Wallabee is a gift we ordered for our college aged son at his request. [...] Also, both my husband and I wore Wallabees during our college days and my husband STILL wears his! Now that is a testimony to long wearing footwear, both in style and in substance! I found working with Online Shoes to be a pleasure and will certainly turn to them again the next time I want a pair of Clark shoes.
Strange, this is a pretty good shoe, not great, but pretty good. I have an old pair of Wallabees that were made in Vietnam and they seem to be heavier and of better material than these which were made in China.
