First of all, I want to explain that I am a service technician at a major truck dealership and, while I spend most of my time at work on my feet, it is NOT in extreme conditions -- there is no gravel or walking through water and I am not "abusing" my boots with chemicals.
I usually purchase Redwing, Timberland Pro or Wolverine boots but, while searching for a new pair of boots last year ( 2015 ), I saw that CAT had these "extreme duty" line of boots that had the flex-style sole. Thinking that this sole design would help reduce fatigue from being on my feet all day, I decided to give them a try which was a huge mistake ! I purchased these boots in July 2015 but didn't actually start wearing them until Late August. By the first week of October, the inside lining of the boot wore through and caused blisters on the back of both heels. The insoles also wore out and was like walking on the actual sole of the boot, Because I couldn't return the boots ( already worn and outside of the return period for a defective product ), I applied a cotton "patch" to the inside of the boot lining and replaced the insoles with Dr. Scholls.
By November, I kept noticing that my left foot kept feeling wet and the insoles were damp when it rained but i could never find a leak so I attributed it to water seeping through the stitching in the edge of the sole and applied Sno-Seal to the sole edges but, of course, the leaking never stopped and caused other problems ( from working feet being wrapped in a dark, warm, wet environment ) and, last month, I finally gave up and had to buy another pair of boots for work but kept these to wear while working around the house.
One day, while replacing the insoles ( because the old Dr. Scholls were ruined from the moisture ), and applying Sno-Seal to the entire so-called "Waterproof" boots, I noticed the edge of the leather upper of the left boot had cracked and split at the edge of the sole ( which was the source of the original leak ).
In my opinion, there is absolutely NOTHING good about these boots. They are uncomfortable right out of the box and it goes downhill from there ! I would never buy another pair of CAT boots at any price !
