The wax on the surface of the boot is called" blooming". Blooming is when our rubber boots develop a white cloudy film on the surface of the rubber. This white substance is actually a wax that has been inserted into the rubber compound during production to help prevent weathering. Weathering has the effect of drying out the rubber and causing it crack and split prematurely, so it's imperative that this wax is inserted into the rubber. "Blooming" will occur when the boots are exposed to extremes of temperatures or large temperature swings and certain display lightings. During these conditions, the wax rises to the surface to prevent the rubber from cracking, and in most cases the wax can be wiped off with a damp cloth. However in the worst cases, it requires more attention, and this is when we would recommend using UV Tech spray to clean the boots. The UV tech works in a dual role, firstly it cleans the wax off, secondly, because it's a rubber protectant, it helps to erase the need for the wax to rise to the surface. The UV tech will help to protect the rubber itself. However, due to the nature of the wax and the rubber, it is likely for the boots to bloom again in the future.
